ICE agents in Anthony, New Mexico on August 11th held a family at gunpoint, including women, and children. These agents, wearing body armor and with rifles felt the need to threaten women and children with lethal force. They then brutalized and pepper sprayed another bystander as reported by STOPICE.net
And this is the experience for thousands of Americans all across the country, every single day! And I think there’s an intentional strategy with this new wave of ICE violence to make the population feel helpless, so I’m going to give you two families that you can help today.
Ruben V. was taken in Utah on June 28th after he dropped his daughter off at work. Ruben has three U.S. citizen children, no criminal history. The family is suffering in his absence and have had to delay necessary treatment for one of the children, who is autistic. His daughter reached out to me to help spread his case, and raise money for their legal fees. Immigrants have paid $2 BILLION dollars in bond since 2017 and the average bond rate under the trump regime has shot up to $7,500 and $10,000 per person.

Ruben is sixty, and sick, and the family had to buy medicine for him out of their own pocket.
He has the flu in the facility and is not getting better. We had to buy him medicine, but it’s not helping him recover better. He has a constant painful cough that makes it challenging for him to breathe.
Ruben has a hearing on Sept 3rd with an immigration judge who has a 96.6% denial rate.
On August 5th Jesica Supit was taken by ICE at LAX as she flew with her U.S. citizen partner for a summer vacation. Her partner said it felt targeted, plain clothed ICE agents zeroed in on them before abducting her. Jesica has no criminal history and is being held in the Adelanto processing center, which detainees have alleged to a federal court to violate their 5th amendment protections against inhumane conditions of confinement. They’re raising funds for legal fees, because again, immigration bonds are now $7,500 to $10,000 per person.

On July 16th a federal judge ordered that immigrants at Adelanto get clean water and medical care after CHIRLA and ImmDef filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of former detainees of Adelanto to challenge the unconstitutional conditions in the private for-profit detention center run by GEO Group.
U.S. District Judge Sunshine Suzanne Sykes ruled that the detainees who brought the lawsuit “demonstrated they are likely to prevail” on their claims that conditions at the facility violate Fifth Amendment protections against inhumane conditions of confinement.
The suit came after two deaths at the facility within weeks of each other last fall: Ismael Ayala-Uribe, a 39-year-old former DACA recipient, and 56-year-old Gabriel Garcia-Aviles. Both deaths are still under federal investigation.
I’ve spoken with Ruben’s daughter and Jesica’s partner and verified the GoFundMes. Immdef.org is another organization you can donate to, they offer a plethora of free legal resources for immigrants and you can check-in with their page if you know anyone who needs immigration help.
