Three ICE updates - Texas city council candidate was arrested on Saturday for protesting the ICE shooting of Wilber Perez in Austin. We now know the name of the agent who murdered Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston, and it’s interesting how his name got out. And we have an inside report on the sham immigration courts that are deporting children as young as 2, who have no lawyers and have to represent themselves.
On Saturday, Texas DPS arrested Misael Ramos, on “riot participation” charges stemming from his participation in a protest in the aftermath of ICE’s shooting of Wilber Perez. They charged him with rioting because he moved a sandbag. This is a clumsy, blatant, and fascistic attempt to stifle protest. Ramos is a Dominican American and running for office- they targeted him on purpose because his arrest would be high profile to send a message.
On the 28th the Texas Tribune published the name of the ICE agent who murdered Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. The agent, Gregory Feathers, fired through the open passenger side window of the van that Salgado was driving, killing 52-year-old father of three Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston. Get this, Feathers’ was ratted out by an unnamed official and Feather’s name appears on an I-213, ICE’s version of a police report that described the shooting, which the U.S. Attorney’s Office “mistakenly” released last month. Clearly not everyone in the government is onboard with these extrajudicial killings by Trump’s brownshirts.
“The local district attorney appears to be currently empaneling a grand jury that could result in criminal charges for Feathers.” So keep protesting, keep the pressure up on Houston’s government. Follow Lulac and El Grito Media, they’re putting in the work to get justice for Lorenzo.
CNN published this report yesterday, inside a Texas immigration court where children as young as two have their fates decided by cold-hearted immigration judges. The majority of these children don’t have legal representation.
The judge asked 13 year old Angel why he couldn’t return to Honduras. The child responded, “My mom and almost my entire family are here[in the U.S.]. It’s too dangerous to go back.” The judge didn’t care and denied his asylum claim. “Would you like to request voluntary departure, or should I issue a removal order?” The bastard judge said to the 13 year old child. “I don’t know,” Angel replied before bursting into tears. He stared ahead stoically and continued to cry, eventually saying: “I have no one. I have nothing.”
The children don’t have legal council because the Trump regime stopped paying the contractor, Acacia Center for Justice, which has provided legal council to 20,000 unaccompanied children. Trump’s white house renovations would have paid for legal council for unaccompanied minors for the next decade. His Big Bend border wall would fund legal council for minors forever, just from the interest a $1.7 billion fund would earn.
